Lead DevOps (Terraform & AWS) Engineer

Job Overview:

NorthBay is seeking an experienced Lead DevOps Engineer with a strong background in AWS, Terraform, and container orchestration technologies—particularly Amazon EKS and Kubernetes. This leadership role requires a seasoned professional who can drive the design, implementation, and management of scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure solutions. You will play a key role in establishing DevOps best practices, mentoring team members, and enhancing automation strategies across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 10–12+ years of experience in DevOps, with proven leadership in cloud-native infrastructure solutions.
• Deep expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, etc.).
• Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform, including writing modules, managing state, and implementing IaC best practices.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS for container orchestration and cluster management.
• Solid understanding of Docker, Helm, and related container tools.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and automation workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or lead a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for provisioning and managing scalable cloud environments on AWS.
• Architect and maintain containerized infrastructure using Kubernetes with a strong focus on Amazon EKS for microservices orchestration and deployment.
• Streamline and optimize CI/CD pipelines, integrating Terraform, EKS, and Kubernetes into modern deployment workflows.
• Develop reusable Terraform modules and manage remote backends and state management for infrastructure consistency and scalability.
• Monitor system health, performance, and security across AWS and Kubernetes environments; implement observability best practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
• Guide and mentor junior DevOps engineers and help foster a culture of continuous improvement and automation.
• Stay current with emerging DevOps tools, AWS offerings, and Kubernetes trends to enhance infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
